A family in a northwest neighbourhood encountered smoke and an unusual odour early Wednesday evening after a fire broke out in their attached garage.

AHS issues public alert after traveller with measles visits Leduc while contagious

Alberta Health Services issued a public alert Sunday advising Edmonton-area residents that a passenger who arrived on a flight from Vancouver on Feb. 12 had a “lab-confirmed” case of measles.

The person visited several locations in and around Leduc on Feb. 12 and 13 while contagious and could have exposed others to the virus, according to AHS.

A Calgary man has been found guilty of second-degree murder in the 2010 killing of a bartender.

Kyle Ledesma was convicted in connection to the shooting death of Dexter Bain back in 2010.

The 11-person jury delivered the guilty verdict Sunday afternoon after a four-week trial.

The rail line running through Field, B.C. that was the site of a train derailment that killed three Canadian Pacific (CP) workers on Monday has re-opened, a CP spokesperson said Wednesday.

“In close collaboration with Transport Canada, and upon completion of all necessary safety checks, CP’s mainline through Field, B.C. re-opened earlier today,” said CP spokesperson Salem Woodrow in an email to Global News.

Health Canada moving to restrict vape advertisements to youth

Health Canada is proposing new restrictions on advertising vaping products and e-cigarettes to minors, citing concerns about the products’ rising popularity among teens.

The proposed regulations, which have yet to be finalized, restrict advertising where youth might see it.
